JUNIOR CANES SHUTOUT BRUINS IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE

Carolina

Those wily junior Canes were at it again on Friday, this time taking down the shorthanded Boston Bruins 1-0. Cam Barker scored the only goal in the contest on the power play off of a cross rink pass from Dustin Penner. The Canes took that lead and sat on it all game long.

Jonathan Boutin was tested, but not peppered in the game but managed to turn away all 21 shots for the shutout win.

Shawn Belle and Brent Seabrook led the game in hits.

The game also featured a couple fights for the crowd.

Fan favourite Jordan Smith pounded Roman Vopat into submission in the first tilt of the contest. From the start of the fight, there was no way Vopat could even get balanced and the 19 year old Smith took full advantage.

Brent Seabrook later fell victim to the same fate as former Cleveland Indians catcher Jake Taylor did the Ricky Vaughn uppercut to finish off the unsuspecting Seabrook.

The Junior Canes are on somewhat of a roll as of late. Power forward Zach Stortini continues his run of being an important piece to the Canes puzzle. Since the youngster joined the club, their success has been more than evident.

The Canes won’t get much time to enjoy the win however as the club takes their show to Atlanta to face the junior Thrashers. Look for Boutin to continue his run in nets.
