Flyers defeat Bruins
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Boston Bruins 4-2 last game at the Fleet Center.
Kyle Wellwood opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the first with assists from Jamie Lundmark and Darcy Tucker. The Bruins answered late in the 1st on Brad Richards’ 10th of the season from Havlat and Tkachuk. The shots after 1st were 10-6 for the Bruins. Early in the 2nd the momentum changed after a spirited bought between Kristian Kurdoc and Bill Guerin, the fight was scored as a draw, but it seemed to spark the Flyers. Several minutes later the Flyers took the lead on Peter Polcik’s 10th of the season from Kurdoc and Lyashenko. The shots after the 2nd were 12-2 Flyers.
To start the third the Flyers grinding line cashed in just 1:08 in with Scott Parkers 4th goal of the season from Chris Gratton and Jamie Lundmark’s 2nd point of the night. The Bruins cut the lead to 3-2 on Koivu’s 14th goal of the season and the fortunes looked good for the B’s. Just around a minute after scoring Chris Gratton was called for hooking. Just 5 seconds after the initial call, the Flyers scored their 5th shorthanded goal of the season as Lundmark capped off a solid night scoring his 9th goal of the year and his 3rd point of the night from Brad Leeb and goaltender Martin Gerber.
This game turned out to be the last game in a Flyers uniform for winger Darcy Tucker as he was later shipped off to Detroit in a deal for Tomas Plekanec. Darcy finished the game as a +1 with one assist and 3 hits. “It’s definitely a shocked to be moved this soon after expecting to be a Flyer for the rest of my career…” said Tucker. “I never expected this to happen after talking to management and them assuring me that they would not move me, they obviously lied... I am pretty ******* ticked off right now...”
The Flyers next game comes against the Montreal Canadiens on Day 83 from the First Union Center. Martin Gerber will start in his 30th game of the season. Tomas Plekanec will make his debut.
