Capitals Continue Free Agent Haul

The Washington Capitals continued to be aggressive in the free agent market and signed versatile and skilled forward Anson Carter today. The Caps were also major players for Eric Lindros and Jani Hurme but narrowly missed out on both players.

Carter, 31, signed a four-year deal worth $2,789,876 per year with a signing bonus of the same amount. A talented forward, Carter can play on the wing or at center and his excellent passing could see him feature at the pivot for Washington. He's also speedy and strong skater with great durability and very good endurace and discipline. At 6-1 and 200 pounds he plays a strong game, and last season he scored 23 goals and dished out 42 assists in 82 games for the Coyotes. He also doled out 110 hits while recording zero penalty minutes. In the playoffs, Carter netted seven times and added two assists in seven games. He also rocked for 26 hits.

Washington also made strong moves for Eric Lindros and Jani Hurme, but the team lost out on both players. Lindros is headed to Toronto where he'll make just $2,877 more per year. Hurme is on his way to Tampa Bay where he'll make less per year, but he couldn't refuse the Lightning's generous $4,000,000 signing bonus.

With one more round of free agency, the Capitals are likely done, but you never know what might happen...
