Hrdina joins Blues RW
After todays 4-2 win over the Predators the Blues announced that they had aquired Jan Hrdina from the Chicago Blackhawks. In exchange the Blues give up solid defencemen Bryce Salvador who was not likely to see much time on the Blues blueline as well as prospect Craig Switzer as well the 2 teams swaped picks and the Blues will be sending some cash to the cash straped Hawks. Gm Foley had these comments about the trade, "When you get a chace to add a top 3 RW to your team and not have to give up any of your roster players it is a deal I just could not pass up. The Blues are looking to be a strong contender and with this trade we should have a solid 4 line attack. Our biggest flaw last season was that after our top line we really had noone to step up and score the big goal. The main reason for that was Lindros's huge contract which prevented us from adding any depth to the team cause we hovered at the cap all season. Now we are able to bring in some depth players and even pick up a few FA's on the open market."
With this trade the Blues still have about 5 mil in cap space to work with. And while it is unlikely the Blues will go right to the cap speculation is the Blues GM does have another deal in the works. No Details have been released but some rumours swirling around the locker room include star net minder Nikolai Khabibulin Being moved rather trying to resign him in the next offseason. Also rumored to be on the move is Espen Knutsen who had fallen out of favour last season with both the Blues coaching staff and management. Names rumored to be comming back to the Blues include Ethan Moreau and Brent Johnson. More detail to follow.
