Boston Quandary

The mark of a truly great team its ability to continue to win in the face of lost players.

The Bruins do not appear to be a truly great team.

Over the last two weeks, the team has found itself without Andrew Raycroft, Sean Brown (once suspended, once injured), Matt Walker, Lars Jonnson (twice), Peter Sykora, Tomas Kopecky, Brian Rolston, and Lee Goren (once suspended, once injured) for at least two games each.

In that stretch, the Bruins are a breakeven team, playing mere .500 hockey. In fact, the team is 5-5-0 in its last ten. For a team that almost a month without a win, that's all right. But the bar had been raised during the team's winning stretch, leaving GM Joshua Anderson with a bitter taste of anger.

"I understand that this stuff happens randomly... but it's well past the point of being damn near personal now. Lady Luck and her anal-plugged bitch, Ryan Long, seem to be conspiring against us to the point of ridiculousness.

All we can do is persevere and try to make things happen. Given the ship we received, to be in the position we are in is one of good fortune, but we're in a spot where we must be cautious. It's actually a terrible great position. We're obviously not a contender, and we don't have the boatload of youth to look to on the horizon. But we're not a bottom of the heap team, so we're winning and like that. We'll end up like the old Utah Jazz - good enough to get in the playoffs, good enough to draw decently, but not good enough to win and draw the overcrowded house and have the satisfaction of a title. But we're not bad enough to blow up the place and take home a top three draft pick."

Anderson continued, "So, what's a competitive guy to do? The only option I see is to try for the bronco - go balls-deep, tell it it's ugly, and hold on tight for the ride."
