Capitals Sing the Blues

The Washington Capitals continued their dismal performance on home ice on Day 74 in a 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues. With the loss, Washington falls to 13-18-3 for the season.

St. Louis opened the scoring at 6:39 of the first period when Handzus netted on the power play from Erat and Morrison. Jonathan Cheechoo was in the box for elbowing at the time of the goal.

The Capitals picked up their play in the second period, and dominated the action by outshooting the Blues 13-3 over the 20 minutes. Unfortunately the home team couldn't manage a goal, and St. Louis extended their lead to 2-0 on LeClerc's 15th of the season from Hrdina and Saviels at 19:06.

The Blues bounced back to play a strong final period and scored a pair of goals to complete the rout. Commodore made it 3-0 from Holik and Semin at 11:17, and Saviels finished it off from Richards and Hrdina at 19:15.

Manny Legace made 21 saves in the loss to fall to 11-16-2. Kevin Weekes stopped all 28 shots he faced to earn the shutout win for the Blues.

Washington returns to action on Day 77 against New Jersey.
