Capitals Stop Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals dominated from start to finish and beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Day 105. The win moved the Caps to 18-26-8.

Carolina jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period despite being outshot 15-10. Friesen got the goal from Woywitka and Draper at 18:27. Washington had two chances on the power play, but the offense couldn't put one past the goaltender.

The Capitals struck back in the second period through Zigmund Palffy at 4:36. The goal, Palffy's 16th of the season, was assisted by Cory Sarich and Dan SNyder.

With the game tied 1-1 entering the final period, Washington played a great 20 minutes to earn the victory. Palffy scored his second goal, the game-winner, after just two seconds from Patrick Marleau and Rob Blake. The Capitals outshot Carolina 14-5 in the third period.

Manny Legace stopped 20 shots to earn the win and improve to 14-22-5. Robert Gherson made 34 saves in the loss for Carolina.

The Capitals are back in action on Day 107 against Vancouver.
