Junior Capitals Stormed by Hurricanes

The Washington Junior Capitals lost its third straight game on Day 91 in a 4-3 decision to the Carolina Junior Hurricanes. Washington is now 20-23-3 for the season.

Carolina jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period when Mojzis netted from Carter and Laine at 7:14, but the Caps answered quickly. Fabien Laniel scored the goal for Washington from Greg Mauldin and Jean-Claude Sawyer just 1:16 after Carolina's tally. The Capitals outshot the 'Canes 12-7 in the period, but the Laniel goal was all the team could muster.

The Hurricanes got on the board first in the second period on Mozyakin's unassisted goal at 10:34, but once again Washington answered to tie the game. This time it was Lance Moynch getting the goal from Sean Bergenheim and Matt Maglione at 13:33. The game looked to be going to the intermission tied at 2-2, but a late penalty to Branko Radivojevic gave the 'Canes a chance on the power play. Tambellini took advantage and scored from Lessard and Stewart to give Carolina the 3-2 lead.

Washington turned up the heat in the final period, and Radivojevic came through with a goal from Sean Kotary and Igor Shadulov at 2:43 to level the score. Neither team managed another goal in regulation, but Carolina got the winner just eight seconds into overtime through Laine from Lessard and Mojzis.

Brad Topping made 23 saves in the loss for Washington. Konstantin Barulin was excellent in goal for the 'Canes and stopped 34 shots to earn the win.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 93 against New Jersey.
