Junior Capitals Edge Islanders
The Washington Junior Capitals scored two goals in the final period to complete a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the New York Junior Islanders on Day 110. The victory ended a two-game losing streak for Washington and moved the team to 23-27-6.
New York took the lead early in the first period when Baranov scored from Mantymaa and Guenet at 3:14. The Caps battled back to tie the game at 16:58 on Maglione's first goal of the season. Sean Kotary and Zbynek Novak assisted on the tally. Washington stayed in the game by killing three penalties in the first period.
Neither team scored in the second, but the Capitals killed two more penalties to stay in the game. Early in the final period, the Isles regained the lead on Radunske's 12th goal of the season from Bahensky and Perez. Washington killed off two more penalties, upping the total to seven for the game, before launching the comeback bid. Ivan Baranka tied the game with his fifth marker of the season from Maxim Orlov and Patrick O'Sullivan at 12:00. Just less than seven minutes later Jean-Claude Sawyer netted the game-winner from Greg Maudlin and Mikhail Kuleshov. The winning goal came just 11 seconds after Washington killed its eight penalty of the game.
Daniel Taylor made 23 saves to earn the win for the Capitals. Matt Zaba stopped 25 shots in the loss for New York.
The Junior Capitals return to home ice on Day 111 to face the New York Rangers.
