JR Sens Victory keeps them on top
The Jr Sens won last night versus the fiesty Anaheim Juniors. This was a crucial game for the Sens junior squad as their quest for 1st place continues into the final two games of the season. With the Senators' victory, the remain atop the Wales Conference with 95 points; 3 points ahead of Philly and 4 points ahead of the Isles. However, those pesky Canes are still hanging in tough being 5 points behind with 2 games in hand. The Sens are also deadlocked with the Flames for First place overall.
Last night's game saw the Senators at home to the Anaheim Jr. Ducks. The Senators came out with guns blazing as they fired 14 shots at young netminder Michal Lanicek, but only managed one goal scored by Hendricks to tie the game at the 16:45 mark of the 1st period.
The 2nd period was ugly for the Sens as they were outshot 19-4. Their only goal came at the 8 minute mark by Jan Platil, a last minute decision to play by GM Schmucky in place of Carter Trevisani. The Ducks added 3 in the period to take a 4-2 lead into the 3rd.
But Ottawa wouldn't give up. Just 3 minutes into the 3rd period, Jan Bohac scored his 16th of the year to bring the Sens within one. Then, 5 minutes later, Nick Tarnasky added his 23rd goal to tie the game up midway through the 3rd period. Christian Pollar led the way as the Sens were outshot in the final two periods but he held strong and kept them in it to push the game to O.T.
In O.t. is was a matter of who wanted it the most, and obviously, that was the Sens. In three minutes the Sens fired 4 shots on net and allowed 0. The winner being landed at the 3:03 mark by team leader Kiel Mcleod to lock the Sens victory and keep them pushing for that #1 spot.
The Sens are in tough tonight against the Canes but hope to secure their 1st place position with a win and a Philly loss.
