Junior Capitals Crushed by Philadelphia

The Washington Junior Capitals played like a team going through the motions on Day 163 in a 7-3 loss to the Philadelphia Junior Flyers. The setback dropped Washington to 32-37-12.

Sean Bergenheim gave the Caps a great start when he scored from Henrik Tallinder and Branko Radivojevic at 1:19, but after that it was all Philly. Nolan tied the game from Sullivan and Picard at 8:30, before Kondraitev made it 2-1 from Picard and Sullivan at 9:15. Stajan made it three in a row with an unassisted goal at 13:29, before Jessiman extended the lead to 4-1 with a power play marker from Olson and Sullivan at 17:47. Sullivan completed the run of five straight goals with another tally with the man advantage at 19:55.

The Junior Flyers continued to pour it on the middle stanza. Washington managed just two shots on goal, and Philadelphia added two goals to make it 7-1. Jessiman scored the first from Nolan and Kuhtinov at 12:10, and Ruzicka added another power play goal from Lefebvre at 14:21.

The Caps added two goals in the final period to complete the scoring. Lance Moynch made it 7-2 from Jakub Cutta and Zbynek Novak at 0:16, before Radivojevic finished things off from Sean Kotary and Moynch at 11:37.

Brad Topping made just nine saves in the loss and fell to 14-25-6. Robert Muller stopped 11 shots in relief. Martin Gerber needed just 15 saves to earn the win for Philadelphia and improved to 34-25-6.

The Junior Capitals visit Nashville in the season finale on Day 164.
