Oilers Lose in Overtime
A crippled version of the Oilers lineup took to the ice yesterday in what turned out to be their final game of the season. Down 3 of their top defensman and with most of the rest of the team wielding bumps, cuts and bruises from this physical series that can only be described as an all out war.
The first period was dominated by the Oilers but Boucher showed some obvious butterflies from the pressure and let in 2 quick goals mid-way through the 3rd. The Oilers were trailing after one 2-1 even though the Oilers had out shot the Preds 10-5.
The 2nd was an even matched battle and the Oilers were able to take the lead 3-2 after goals from Pandolfo & Grand-Pierre. The Predators out shot the Oilers 8-6.
The Predators came out flying in the 3rd and the majority of the period was played in Edmonton's end. Boucher held the Predators relentless attack off the best he could but at 12:16 in the 3rd Mike Modano tied the game up. Their were some really good chances in the dieing moments but nothing was decided in regulation and the game went to Overtime.
Early in the 1st Overtime Nolan Pratt stepped over the blue line and wound up to take a big slapshot, The puck was deflected off of Grand-Pierre's skate and in the net it went.
