Just one of the Boys

The Blues played a girl in the preseason and damned if she didn't perform. Playing on a line that amounted to no more then a 3rd line. Hayley Wickenheiser came out and not only did she not embarass herself she all but played herself onto the team. While noone thinks she will score 30 goals and get 60 assists but many insiders feel that her 2 goals and 3 assists on the top line of the Blues during the preseason could translate into a bonified 2nd line position for the first woman in the history of clutch to play in the regular season. Only time will tell if she can translate her preseason sucess into a regular season run and you can be sure that GM Foley will be quick on the trigger if she starts to struggle in the regular season. Make no mistake however that sucess in the regular season could land the this phenominal woman a pro spot for life and perhaps win herself a few fans along the way.
The only blemish to the preseason was against the Canes when Hayley was vicously attacked by several of the Canes and when Dan Hamhuis came to her rescue it got ugly and now Hamhuis will sit for 9 more games. Team Captain Jeff Jillson had these comments about the incident, "Dan did what he had to. One of our teamates was being put down by the other team and that will not be tolorated. It doesn't matter that she is a girl and I am sure that if the situation repeats itself then the results will be the same. GM Foley has made a lot of solid moves this offseason and we have a lot of depth on D and up front. This team is built to go deep and we will be looking to make an impact this season."
