CANES LEAVE PHILLY WITH 5 GOALS, 18 POWER PLAYS

After spending more than half the game on the power play, and watching several Philadelphia hacks continue to assault their players, the Carolina Hurricanes walked away with a win and a suspension.

"What a waste of time that game was," said Daniel Briere, who finished the contest with 2 power play goals. "We had 18 power plays and I think the only reason we only had that few is because the refs got tired of blowing the whistle at their craziness."

The Canes, however, did not back down from the Flyers as several bouts occurred. Shane Doan, Gord Dwyer and Brendan Shanahan all had tilts in the match and did well in all three.

"You back down in a game like this, they will own you all season long," said captain Shane Doan, who received a 4 game suspension after his altercation. "I wanted to show them that their style of hockey is not going to fly here, pun intended. I took the battle into my own hands and we will see how it goes from here on in. Personally, I like winning more than dealing with bullies, but it was nice to take the win and teach them a lesson."

The Canes only have one more preseason game left before beginning the regular season. So far the Canes have received contributions form several members, including 2 2 point performances from Dany Heatley and Brian Gionta in their one and only game.
