Ottawa Happy with Draft Results

The Senators had 3 picks in last nights draft and are very happy with their results. Having only 3rd, 4th and the last pick overall, the Sens did not have high expectations. However, the results proved to be pleasing as they will bring in two 19 year olds and a great looking older prospect with their last choice.

The Senators first choice was 6'1" Defenseman Bryan Young. Young is 19 years old and an Ontario born player currently with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. Young is a 6.0B rated prospect who was highly touted by the Senators to beef up their blueline. As stated by hockey futures "A feisty competitor, Young has been called the best open ice hitter in the OHL. The fact that he is defensively sound is helpful in overshadowing his lack of offensive upside."

Finally, the last pick in the entire draft went to the Senators as they grabbed what they feel is a huge steal! Igor Volkov, a highly touted Russian prospect, was still available and quickly snatched by Schmucky. Volkov has been said to be in the same category as Kaigorodov and Grigorenko. He is an excellent two way player who isn't afraid to get dirty in the corners and dig for the puck. Volkov is also quick and has soft hands. The Sens look forward to his future in the CLUTCH pro ranks.

The Senators nabbed 5'10" RW Kris Versteeg of the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 4th round. Versteeg should add some firepower on offence for the JR Sens this season and is also only 19 years old. He will be camped veraciously in order to prepare him for his pro career. The Sens expect big things from this not so big Winger.
