Capitals Tie Kings
The Washington Capitals scored a pair of goals in the final period to earn a 3-3 tie with the Los Angeles Kings on Day 90. The result snapped a two-game losing skid for Washington and moved the club to 19-26-5.
Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes after goals by Kunitz and Lydman. Former Cap Palffy assisted on both goals. Lydman earned the second helper on Kunitz's tally at 5:26, and Gaborik had an assist on Lydman's goal at 12:53.
Washington got on the board early in the second period when Patrick Marleau notched his 15th of the season from Severin Blindenbacher and Jonathan Cheechoo at 2:03.
The Capitals tied the game on the power play in the early stages of the third. Marleau was the scorer again from Peter Tenkrat and Oleg Saprykin at 6:29. The Kings regained the lead just under five minutes later on Yashin's 20th of the season. Ozolinsh and Rozsival assisted on the goal at 11:15. Washington fought back to level the score again just 1:23 later. Nik Antropov got the goal from Cory Sarich and Radoslav Suchy.
Kevin Weekes made 26 saves for Washington, while Jason Labarbera stopped 24 shots for Los Angeles.
