Capitals Trade Canceled

The Washington Capitals trade with the Minnesota Wild was canceled today by the CLUTCH league office. The Wild had already traded the draft pick to Detroit and thus the transaction could not be completed.

"I'm stunned with what's happened. A GM approached me about a trade, and now it turns out he didn't even have the pick to trade," GM John Henry said in an afternoon press conference. "We will welcome Bubba back to the fold and look forward to opening training camp soon."

Berenzwieg, 27, is a 6-1, 215 pound, offensive defenseman. He has good strength, endurance, and durability as well. Last season with the Capitals he scored one goal and added two assists with 14 PIMs in 21 games.

During today's press conference, Berenzweig said "I was looking forward to joining the Wild, and am disappointed with this turn of events. But, if this is how the organization operated, then perhaps it's a good thing to stay here in Washington. I'm looking forward to the start of camp and to earning my spot on the roster."

Stay tuned for the latest news from Washington as the offseason continues...
