Washington Adds Yr 2007 Draft Pick

The Washington Capitals acquired Chicago's 3rd round pick in the Year 2007 draft today in a trade with the Minnesota Wild. Going to Minnesota is defender Bubba Berenzweig.

With 12 players leaving the Jr. Capitals after this season, Washington continues to have a need for draft picks in the Year 2007 draft. Adding a third rounder for a player unlikely to see time with the pro squad now or in the future only makes sense for Capitals management.

"It's a shame to see Bubba go," GM John Henry said, "but he wasn't going to see much time here in Washington. When Minnesota inquired, I talked with Bubba and he agreed the move made sense for his future. He goes to a team where he'll get a chance to play now and possibly in coming seasons."

Berenzweig, 27, checks in at 6-1, 215 pounds, and is an offensive defenseman. He also has good strength, endurance, and durability. Last season with the Capitals he scored one goal and added two assists with 14 PIMs in 21 games.

The third round pick gives Washington three picks in that round. The club also has one pick in the first round, one in the second, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth.

Are there more moves in the Capitals' future? Only time will tell...
