Leafs start out preseason giving depth players a close look
The preseason started and everyone around the league cheered.
The Leafs were just happy to get things started and both the pro and junior teams have responed well going undefeated in a combined 6 games.
The pro recently tied the Bruins 3-3 and have gone 2-0-1 so far. Not bad considering they are playing their 3rd and 4th liners for a majority of the ice time along with their back-up Jamie Hodson. Guys like Bob Wren (3 goals), Russ Bartlett( 3 pts), Petr Svoboda (3 pts) are your typical fill in guys on this talented squad. If one thing the Leafs worried about last season, it was depth, and thats what this preseason really is used for.
The Juniors on the other hand are there for the best talent to prove themselves every game possible and so far, guys are stepping up, showing they may have what it takes to make to the pro squad. The first overall pick in last years draft, Alexander Ovechkin (4 pts) has been helping this team to a quick 3-0 start. Petr Prucha's start(7 pts) has management taking a serious look to perhaps giving him a shot on the pro team perhaps later in the season.
For now, we remind ourselves this is just the preseason, and as I can write about how well the teams are doing today, the next article could be about how poorly they are doing.
