CANES USE DAY OFF FOR MUCH NEEDED REST

Carolina

After a stunning win over the Buffalo Sabres, the Hurricanes players and staff took a day off from the regular routine to heal the wounds and capitalize on their new found success.

"I felt that after these guys went out and played so strong, a little R and R would help out a bit," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "These guys have been on fire since the get go and I think I have ridden them pretty hard since day one. This is my way of letting them know they are doing well."

The team celebrated by having a night out at one Raleigh's finest restaurants in a night that included friends and family. The dinner, which also featured some of the city's top officials, was also put on in support of Cane's Kids charity program, started to support the city's youth suffering from Cancer.

"It is a great cause,”"said assistant captain Mike Fisher. "It is something that has always hit home for me. These kids are real heroes and any time we get a chance to let them know they are not alone, I think we will take that opportunity."

Fisher, who has been a part of the successful program since being acquired, has taken strides in making sure the program is successful and remains such for years to come. Among some of the fundraisers, Mike has created an online auction for hockey memorabilia as well as a Fish with Fisher 3 day weekend where people can bid on a weekend fishing trip with Mike and some of his friends.

"Overall it has really been something I can take pride in," said Fisher. "The city has been great and the fans of the team have really supported this cause."

The Canes vacation ends tonight, however, as the squad has flown out to Ottawa to take on the Senators at Scotia Bank Place. Look for Theodore to make his second consecutive start.
