Rolo wins in Debut
After David Aebischer lost his previous game against the lowly Calgary Flames, the newly acquired Dwayne Roloson hoped to get the Islanders back on the winning track. It was his first game all year, and Rolo knocked off the rust, stopping 17 of 18 shots, in an Islander 6-1 throttling of the L.A. Kings.
''I’ll admit it, I was very nervous out there to start. However, the guys really put the pressure on the Kings early, and before the first period was over, we were up 5-0.’’
LA's Juraj Kolnik managed to sneak one past Roloson in the dying seconds of the period made it 5-1. However the goalie buckled down from that point on, and the Kings were unable to get another pack past him.
New York added a final goal late in the final frame, and the Islanders won 6-1. Marian Hossa was named 1st star of the game, as he notched 2 goals and 1 assist. Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and 2 assists, earning the 2nd star, while Mike Peca's goal and assist saw him named the game’s 3rd star. The win gives the Islanders 17 pts in 14 games, and sees them in 4th place in the Eastern Conference. The top 4 teams in the conference are all from the Patrick Division.
The Islanders are back in action Wednesday, as they head into Ottawa to face the Adams Division leading Senators, who are on a 3game winning streak.
