Capitals Down Bruins, Win Third Straight
The Washington Capitals claimed their third straight victory in a 3-1 decision over the Boston Bruins on Day 20. With the two points, Washington ups its record to 5-4-1 for the season.
Washington got off to a great start with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes. Dan Snyder scored the first from Andrew Ference at 3:55, and Mikael Renberg notched his second of the season to make it 2-0. The Capitals then killed off a series of penalties to preserve the lead going to the intermission. There was also a fight in the first period featuring Cory Sarich and Jackman from the Bruins. The pair dueled to a draw at 12:02.
Boston pulled to within one goal early in the second period when Jackman netted from Rolston and Kutlak, but the Capitals dominated the rest of the period. Zigmund Palffy made Washington's strong play payoff at 11:09 when he scored his fifth of the season from Anson Carter.
Neither team scored in the final period, but Washington did kill off six minutes of power play time for Boston to preserve the win.
Manny Legace made 23 saves to earn the win and improve to 4-4-1. Andrew Raycroft stopped 29 shots in the loss and fell to 1-9.
The Capitals are back in action on Day 24 at home to the Calgary Flames.
