Senators Dominate 3rd Period To Give Pathers 2nd Loss
OTTAWA-The Florida Panthers were holding their own until fatigue got to them in the third period where it was all Senators.
The Panthers played a solid first period but it was the Senators who drew first blood at 11:41 with Selannes 6 the of the season. Florida tied the game up at 15:03 when Yanick Lehoux notched his 7th of the year. Michael Ryder scored his first of two on the night at 19:39 while the Sens were on the power play giving Ottawa a 2-1 lead after one.
Owen Nolan tied the game up at two at 13:33. Ottawa regained the lead at 16:05 when Ryder scored his second of the game and 6th of the season. That lead was a short lived one as Michal Handzus scored at 17:32 tying the game at 3 after 40 minutes of play.
The third was all Senators. The lack of playing due to many nights off in the last little while caught up with the Panthers as obvious fatigue set in during the third period as the Senators dominated the period and outshot Florida 16-4.
Dick Tarnstrom got his first goal of the season at 4:45 giving the Sens a 4-3 lead. The Panthers Milan Hnilicka, who was playing a pretty good game, got hurt at the 6 minute mark with what team officials are calling a lower body injury. Roberto Loungo came in to replace him and along with the rest of his team mates he was very cold coming in and it showed in the last half of the period. Patrick Stefan scored his 7th of the year at 9:53 tying the game at four. Thats when the wheels fell off of the Panthers game. Peter Sejna and Brendan Morrison scored 1:38 apart at 13:15 and 14:48 respectfully that took the wind out of the windless Panthers and giving the Sens a 6-4 lead. Petr Nedved added a power play goal in the last minute of play (19:04) and the Ottawa Senators winning streak went to 3 games with the 7-4 victory over Florida.
The Panthers have yet another night off for travel as they go home to host the Capitals and hope to end their 2 game losing streak before they have another 3 days off.
