Hope Rolos onto the Island
The search is over!
The Islanders have finally made a deal for a backup netminder to David Aebischer. After making several offers around the league, with packages involving their youngsters like Raffi Torres, Timofei Shishkanov and Jr Dman Merek Deech, GM Ryan Long was able to get something done with one phonecall to his counterpart in the Vancouver executive office.
The Islanders shipped farm goaltender Vadim Tarasov and NYR’s 3rd round pick to the Canucks, and in exchange received veteran netminder Dwayne Roloson. “Mike Paolini is a no bullshit kind of GM, and we were able to make a trade in a matter of minutes. He got to keep his goaltending depth with the addition of Tarasov, and pickup a mid draft pick as well. We get someone we are confident to put in when Abby needs a break.”
It’s safe to say that the Martin Prusek experiment has been a disaster on Long Island, as the Czech native has struggled mightily in his limited appearances this yr. In 2 starts, he’s got 2 losses, let in 10 goals, and been pulled from both games. When you consider the Islanders have only lost times in 12 total games, it was obvious that Long had zero confidence left in Prusek. “The fact that Abby’s played so well for us to start the year, we need someone reliable that we can put in to give him some days off. Rolo should hopefully be able to fill that role for us, and ensure that David doesn’t get burnt out”
Roloson has been playing for the farm team of the Vancouver Canucks, so will make his first start of the year Monday, when the Islanders play the LA Kings. Last yr, Roloson went 13-12-4, with 3.02 GAA and .895 sv%. If he can post at least
similar numbers for the Isles, GM Long will be happy.
