Capitals Dazzled by Stars
For the second straight game, the Washington Capitals gave up three goals in the final period to lose. This time it was the Dallas Stars skating to a 3-1 victory on Day 25 in Washington. The setback drops the Capitals to 5-6-1 for the season.
After a scoreless first period, Washington opened the scoring late in the second on Anson Carter's fifth goal of the season. Zigmund Palffy and Rob Blake assisted on the tally that came with just 18 seconds remaining.
Trailing 1-0, the Stars shone brightly in the final period. Dallas outshot Washington 14-6 over the last twenty minutes and scored three times to take the win. Karlsson scored first from Visnovsky and Dupuis at 5:59. Vorobiev then scored a brace to lock up the two points. His first was unassisted at 10:17, and the second came from visnovsky and Sjostrom 21 seconds later.
Manny Legace made 33 saves for the Capitals in the loss. Marty Turco stopped 25 shots to earn his seventh win of the season.
The Capitals are back in action on Day 27 agains the Phoenix Coyotes.
