Panthers Host Red Hot 'Canes tomorrow
FLORIDA-The Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes are two teams going in different directions at the moment and the Panthers will have to play their best if they want to snap their 3 game losing streak.
The Carolina Hurricanes are currently tied for 1rst overall with the Nashville Predators. The 'Canes have been one of if not the hottest team in the league after starting the season 1-2. Since then they have only lost once in their last 13 and have not lost in their last 8 going 6-0-2 in that stretch. Ironically though it was the Panthers who clobbered the 'Canes 8-3 before they started their dominance on the rest of the league.
The Panthers started the season dominating just about everyone. They have cooled since then and are currently on a three game losing streak that they hope to snap tomorrow against the mighty 'Canes.
The Panthers will have to get a solid start from Roberto Loungo who has not been playing up to par lately and will have to (as the GM put it) "get his shit together" if the Panthers are going to have any chance of being victorious.
Coach Mike Keenan has also expressed his confusion on the teams power play or should we say lack of one. The high octane Panthers do not have a problem scoring 5 on 5 but are have a pitiful 12.7 pp% which in the 8th worst in the league. On a positive note its no benefit to teams that get on the power play against the Panthers as they have the leagues 5th best penalty killing unit.
It is true that all streaks come to an end.
Will tonight be the night the power full Hurricanes winning streak ends or the Panthers losing streak snapped. One thing is for sure. The 'Canes will be looking to redeem themselves after the last match up and the Panthers will have to bring their "A" game for any chance in this one.
