Junior Capitals Edged by Junior Rangers
The New York Junior Rangers scored in all three phases of the game to claim a 3-2 victory over the Washington Junior Capitals on Day 5. Washington falls to 1-3-0 with the loss. Mikhail Kuleshov led the way for the Capitals with a goal and an assist.
Tha Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 11:00 of the first period when Gorokhov scored from Delisle and Ferland. Washington outshot New York 11-9 over the 20 minutes and killed off one penalty.
The Capitals tied the game early in the second when Peter Pohl scored his second of the season from Kuleshov and Brett Carson. Washington looked to take the lead after Gorokhov took a highsticking major and game misconduct, but the Rangers made the penalty work and scored shorthanded at 15:42. Marois was the scorer from Mitchell and Redlihs. The Capitals tied the game against at 18:09 when Kuelshov scored from Lance Moynch and Greg Mauldin.
With everything on the line in the final period, power plays turned out to be the key to the game. Washington failed on their chance after a Dubin elbowing minor, but the Rangers capitalized when Patrick O'Sullivan went to the box for boarding at 16:19. Petiot scored the game-winner for New York from Redlihs and Buturlin at 17:57.
Brad Topping made 29 saves in the loss. Terry Denike stopped 28 shots to earn his second win.
