Things not good in the city of Boston
On opening night against Detroit, defenseman Matt Walker was gooned by Pavel Brendle on a vicious hooking penalty. He is now out indefinitely with a shoulder injury and is not likely to return until the playoffs, if the Bruins can survive that long.
Twenty-one seconds later, Frantisek Kaberle went down to injury, and at 3:35 of the third period, Sean Brown were also injured, leaving the Bruins down three men, The team managed to hang in the game until just about six minutes to play, when the disadvantage -and a one man disadvantage - gave Nick Schultz a power play opportunity he capitalized on, giving the Red Wings a 3-2 win.
Since that opening night loss, the Bruins have dropped three in a row. Sean Brown returned for their most recent defeat, a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of the Blackhawks, and Fran Kaberle will return to the ice in two nights when the Bruins face the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
The Bruins, thusfar, have scored the fewest goals in the league (tied with the Flyers and Ducks at six), but have given up fifteen, second most in the league (Flyers lead the league in this dubious distinction with sixteen).
The team appears to have no offensive direction under head coach Robbie Ftorek, and there is already an uneasiness in the General Manager's office that may be from the lack of results, or could be because of the lunch time enchiladas.
The team is allegedly working on looking into possible moves with its holdouts, or exchanging holdout rights with other teams. Many are looking to see how those moves come to fruition.
