Turek Bags Shutout as Sens Blank Hawks

Ottawa goaltender Roman Turek had his second heroic start of the year to push the Senators past the Blackhawks on Friday night. Ottawa has been playing great hockey thus far this season, but Turek is the main reason for their good start. Roman stopped 27 shots on Friday night including a number of odd man rushes and 3 Chicago powerplays. When asked about his performance Turek said, "It is always a team effort. The defence was solid tonight in keeping stars like Gomez and Demitra away from me and letting me see every shot. They sure make my job easy when they give me a line on every shot."

GM Schmucky said, "No, we are not surprised with Roman's play. That's why he's here. Our offseason goal was to get him a solid backup with the intention that he would play the majority of games. He's stood up well and to start the season off with a 1.67 GAA and .94 save percentage is just amazing."

The lone goal of the night was scored by Alexei Smirnov, assisted by Sejna and Alexeev. Ottawa's season continues tonight at the Corel Center against the St. Louis Blues.
