Richard Jackman caps fine week with PotW showing
"I am honored to be regarded by the media and my peers so highly," Richard Jackman (not pictured at right) said in a press conference today outside the Fleet Center.
Jackman was referring to his seventeenth-place finish in the recently released Player of the Week polling. It was the highest finish for a Bruins player this season, and their first appearance outside the "Also Receiving Votes" category.
"I have to thank my teammates for their support in winning this award, and of course, God, with whom all things are possible," Jackman continued.
In three games played, Jackman supplemented two goals with two assists for four points. He was +2 for the week, which included a Bruins blowout win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Amazingly, his two goals came on only three shots, which obviously strengthened his overall placing in the eyes of the voters. He had seven devastating hits in forty-seven minutes played. Jackman was narrowly edged out by pretty boy Marian Hossa, who received a bump for the New York bias.
He was the second highest placing defenseman for the week, after Derek Morris of the Maple Leafs, who polled fifth. Excluding goalies, who win a separate Goalie of the Week but are also eligible for the overall player award, Jackman finished fourteenth.
As no one expected this would ever happen for a Bruin, there is no clause in his contract for a top-twenty bonus. GM Joshua Anderson did intimate, however, he would receive a lap dance on the trip to San Jose. When asked if he thought Jackman's wife would appreciate that, Anderson replied "Oh - not Richie. I meant me. I'm bringing strippers on the plane for me."
