Andrew Raycroft, Player of the Month
Final balloting and scoring has been compiled and Boston Bruins Andrew Raycroft was named the winner of Player of the Month for the second period of CLUTCH Season Five.
Raycroft, who played thirteen games in the month with a 9-1-3 record, had one shutout and a save percentage of 91.3% He deflected all but thirty-two shots of the three hundred sixty-seven taken at him.
During the stretch, the Bruins went from basement dweller to playoff fighter. After beginning the year 1-11, the team sits at 16-15-3 now, and are being carried by Raycroft.
"I must thank my teammates," Raycroft said. "Without the defense ahead of me..."
Raycroft stopped to choke back a tear or two as he held the trophy aloft. He continued, "Without the defense ahead of me, I never would have faced so many shots, which helped my save percentage. I must thank them, and I thank my equipment sponsor for working on the extra padding. It's been a lifesaver."
Raycroft is the first goalie this season to win the award, and was the only goalie in the top twenty-five for the first two months of the year. He was not the only Bruin to finish in the top twenty-five for the second month of the season, though, as he was joined by Jochan Hecht (3rd), Tim Connolly (21), Lars Jonnson (22) and Fran Kaberle (25).
