Junior Capitals Conquer Canadiens
Jakub Cutta scored a goal and assisted on two more to lead the Washington Junior Capitals to a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Junior Canadiens on Day 61. Washington improved to 12-15-3 with the win.
Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period thanks to a power play goal from Sean Kotary. Zbynek Novak and Cutta assisted on the tally that came just three seconds into the man advantage. Montreal battled back to tie the game with a goal from Larrivee at 18:02. Malec and Zakharov assisted on the goal.
The second period opened with a series of penalties, and the Capitals regained the lead on a shorthanded goal from Greg Mauldin. The goal, his fifth of the season, came from Cutta and Novak at 8:37, just three seconds after Lance Moynch went to the box for roughing. Washington extended the lead to two goals on Branko Radivojevic's goal from Matt Maglione and Henrik Tallinder at 11:46.
The penalties kept coming in the final period, but this time the gloves came off as Montreal's Spang beat up Patrick O'Sullivan at 5:51. The Capitals added the final goal on the power play as Cutta scored from Mauldin and Moynch at 19:53.
Brad Topping made 27 saves to earn the win and improve to 8-10-2. Olivier Michaud stopped 23 shots in the loss.
