Capitals Shoot Down Ducks
Anson Carter scored a pair of goals to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Day 60. The win ended a three-game losing skid for the Capitals and moved the team to 12-14-3 for the season.
After a scoreless first period that saw Anson Carter move to center ice, Washington struck first early in the second period. It was Carter scoring the goal, his 10th of the season, on the power play from Todd Warriner and Zigmund Palffy at 2:47. Anaheim tied things up just over six minutes later when Flinn converted from Comrie and Kvasha at 9:00.
The game picked up in the final period, and after coincidental minors at 5:35, Washington regained the lead when Carter scored his second of the game from Palffy and Cory Sarich at 6:19. Leading 2-1, Washington upped its advantage to 3-1 on Frantisek Lukes' power play goal from Patrick Marleau and Mark Eaton at 9:59. The Capitals penalty killing unit then took over, stopping the Ducks on two consecutive power plays. After the successful kills, Mikael Renberg put the game away with a goal from Andrew Ference and Sarich at 18:02.
Manny Legace stopped 20 shots to earn his 10th win of the season and improve to 10-13-1. Pasi Nurminen made 34 saves in the loss for Anaheim.
Washington returns to action on Day 61 against the Boston Bruins.
