Be vewwy qwiet, we're huntin ducks

The Boston Bruins went Duck hunting at the Fleet Center and hit a rare breed - a Nurminen - five times.

Bill Guerin got the first hit, scoring at just 00:51 for his twenty-fourth goal of the year, taking the team lead of twenty-three from Jochan Hecht. Hecht and Fran Kaberle with credited with assists on the goal scoring, the quickest of the year for Guerin.

At 05:57, Anaheim's Matt Carle did what he does best and received a double minor penalty for roughing. The Bruins looked to capitalize on this advantage and sent Keith Tkachuk barrelling towards the net on the power play, and following Brett Hedican and Andy McDonald passes, KT shot the Nurminen like a plane in the no-fly zone - crash and burn and rejoice. Tkachuk and teammates celebrated as Nurminen turned his bill back around like Daffy Duck.

The Ducks were given bb guns to shoot back with, but were warned they may shoot their eyes out with that thing. Karel Rachunek got the first shot off, which stung the Bruins a bit and made them stagger, but ended up just ticking the team off.

In the last three minutes of the period, Nurminen absorbed additional hits from Peter Sykora and Richard Jackman. While he had been shot several times, Nurminen was still staggering - which meant he was available to be filled with more lead in the second period. The Bruins went to the locker room with a 4-1 lead and a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.

In period two, things got ugly. Anaheim came out thugged up, as Boxin Ben Guite was almost immediately called for charging. Zdenek Kutlak retaliated with a bloody high stick, and Karel Rachunek drew vengance for that call with an elbow delivered to the eyesocket of Kutlak. As he was attackin Kutlak, Richard Jackman, simulteaneously, delivered his own highsticking slash to Guite. Just as things settled down, Sean Brown delivered a crosscheck to Rachunek that earned him a trip to the penalty box. Finally, at 16:15 Rachunek again was whistled for hooking, to which the Bruins' lead goon, Jackman, attacked Rachunek, earning him an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty.

With the ice stained in the blood of birds and bears, calm was restored finally. As play was slowing down and both teams were eyeing each other warily, Karel Rachunek threw up a dump that caught Raycroft napping, making the score 4-2 good guys.

Angered by such a cheap goal, Tomas Kopecky fired a shot just after the third period puck dropped. Nurminen was obviously suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, because at 00:08, Kopecky's shot skipped right past his outstretched hand. After he departed the ice, Nurminen collapsed into the fetal position in the lockerroom, where he refused to move.

Scott Stirling took over in net and deflected his first shot with ease. However, Sean Brown was able to beat him stickside just three-and-a-half minutes into his stay in the game, leaving Stirling shaking in his skates.

That would be the end of the Bruins scoring, though the Ducks would add a toss in goal at 18:51 by Stefan Schauer. To round out the other action, Richard Jackman fought both Brendan Shanahan and Jani Rita (at different times), with both going to a draw.

When all was said and done, the Bruins stood tall in scoring - up 6-3 - and claimed the win. John Grahame, resting Andrew Raycroft for the night, improved to 4-6-0 on eighteen saves off twenty-one shots. Pasi Nurminen will hang on the Bruins' trophy wall, and somehow, the worst travesty of the night was Karel Rachunek taking home the top game star in front of 12,708 rabid Bruins' fans.
