Capitals Rolled by Rangers

The Washington Capitals lost its second straight game on Day 94 in a 5-3 setback against the New York Rangers. With the loss, Washington falls to 14-21-5 for the season.

New York came out quickly in the first period and got on the board after just 2:41. Nash was the scorer from Kilger and Dimitrakos. Blake made it 2-0 from Pyatt and Ponikarovsky at 14:33, before the Caps finally got on the board at 17:13. Anson Carter scored the goal for Washington from Zigmund Palffy and Bryan Berard.

The Rangers continued to dominate the play in the second period, but Washington was able to level the score early in the action. Ivan Rachunek got the goal from Todd Warriner and Greg Watson at 5:03, but just 2:05 later New York regained the lead through Girard from Ponikarovsky and Blake. Less than nine minutes after Girard's goal, Dumont made it 4-2 on the power play when he scored from Ribeiro and Ponikarovsky. The Rangers continued to pour it on, and 36 seconds later it was 5-2 as Redden netted from Blake and Girard. Washington finally got back on the board on Jonathan Cheechoo's goal from Frantisek Lukes at 17:58.

Washington had some jump in the final period, but couldn't manage a goal. The Caps outshot New York 13-8 in the period, but failed on two power play chances.

Manny Legace struggled in goal, stopping just 17 shots. Peter Skudra made nine saves in relief. Mike Dunham stopped 22 shots to earn the win for the Rangers.

The Capitals return to action on Day 85 against the Detroit Red Wings.
