Junior Capitals Go Duck Hunting

The Washington Junior Capitals returned to the winner's circle on Day 84 in a 4-1 victory over the Junior Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Sean Bergenheim scored a pair of goals to lead the way as the Caps improved to 19-20-3 for the season.

Bergenheim opened the scoring at 12:20 of the first period. The goal, his fifth of the year, was assisted by Ivan Baranka. The period also featured a fight between Branko Radivojevic and Anaheim's Svensk. The bout ended in a draw.

Anaheim got on the board early in the second period on a power play goal by Hecimovic from Lynch and Lynch. Fabien Laniel was in the box for roughing at the time. The Capitals turned up the pressure after the Anaheim goal, and Radivojevic made it 2-1 on the power play from Sean Kotary and Jakub Cutta at 9:51. Less than seven minutes later Radivojevic was ejected for his second fight of the game, this time battling to a draw with S. Lynch.

The Caps kept the pressure up in the final period, and Bergenheim extended the lead to 3-1 when he scored from Patrick O'Sullivan and Matt Maglione at 8:30. Three minutes later Andrew Joudrey completed the scoring with his first career goal from Ryan MacMurchy and Henrik Tallinder. A couple minutes later there was a third fight, and this time Greg Mauldin beat up Anaheim's Svensk.

Brad Topping made 23 saves to earn the win for Washington and improve to 10-13-2. Michal Lanicek stopped 28 shots for Anaheim.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 86 against Buffalo.
