Junior Capitals Stop Senators

The Washington Junior Capitals scored a pair of goals 1:18 apart in the final period to earn a 2-1 victory over the high-flying Ottawa Junior Senators on Day 75. The victory moves Washington to 16-18-3 for the season.

After a scoreless first period, the action heated up in the second as Ottawa outshot Washington 10-3. Neither team managed a goal, but there were two fights that kept the crowd rocking. Fabien Laniel and Ottawa's McClellan fought to a draw at 2:30, before Laniel was beat up by McLeod at 16:57.

The goals finally came in the final period, and Plihal opened the scoring for the Senators with an unassisted goal, his 15th, at 1:51. Washington fought back to tie the game through Greg Mauldin from Mikhail Kuleshov at 9:08, and Patrick O'Sullivan then scored the eventual game-winner on the power play from Ivan Baranka and Sean Bergenheim.

Daniel Taylor stopped 29 shots to earn the win, his eighth of the season. Tobias Stephan made 20 saves for Ottawa in the loss.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 77 against Pittsburgh.
