Junior Capitals Tie New York
The Washington Junior Capitals kept its slim playoff hopes alive on Day 134 in a 2-2 tie with the New York Junior Islanders. The point moved Washington to 28-31-9, five points out of the eight spot in the Wales Conference.
After a scoreless first period, New York opened the scoring on the power play early in the middle stanza. Bolduc got the goal, his fifth of the season, from Baranov and Sterling at 3:31. The Isles extended its lead to 2-0 just 1:01 later on Stewart's marker from Brunelle and Jones. The Caps finally got on the board late in the period on Sean Bergenheim's goal from Lance Moynch at 19:25.
After Branko Radivojevic fought New York's Kadeykin to a draw at 4:16 of the third, Washington tied the game midway through the period. Matthew Hansen was the scorer from Radivojevic and Greg Mauldin at 9:47.
Despite outshooting the Islanders 4-1 in the overtime period, the Capitals couldn't come up with the winning goal.
Brad Topping made 24 saves and moved to 14-22-5. Matt Zaba stopped 30 shots for New York to go to 34-24-8.
The Junior Capitals are back in action on Day 136 against St. Louis on home ice.
