CANES DISPOSE OF FLYERS AS WIN STREAK CONTINUES

Carolina

With their playoffs now decided, the Carolina Hurricanes invaded Philadelphia to take on the Flyers. Led by a 2 assist effort by defensive rock Jeff Woywitka, the Canes put away the Flyers for the second time in three games.

Jose Theodore struggled at times, but in the end, closed the door and the Canes came out on top.

"This was a big game for us because a win meant we locked ourselves in at the 5th spot," said captain Shane Doan, who took on Olli Jokinen in a mid game tussle. "We know that we have the Rangers now, and so far this season we have done pretty well against them. They have a lot of weapons, but we feel we do as well. I guess it is setting up to be a good one for the fans."

Indeed, the Hurricanes and the Rangers have met 4 times this season with the Hurricanes winning 3 of the 4. Playoffs, however, are a different beast all together. The Rangers have added a lot of weapons down the stretch while the Canes have unloaded some key veterans; Veterans who were responsible for those 3 victories throughout the season.

"Any time you subtract a Darcy Tucker, Cory Stillman and Mattias Ohlund, you are bound to take a hit in the skill department," said gritty defender Jay McKee. "The only real important thing though is who is left. We feel our team can roll with anybody at this moment. We took down the Islanders and the Lightning this past couple of weeks and the momentum is there. The Rangers are going to be a tough one to put down, but I cannot say we feel like an under dog. We have been right there with them all season long, regardless of who was added or who left."

The Canes have one final matchup against the defending champions the Tampa Bay Lightning. The game for the Canes is meaningless as the Hurricanes cannot slide up or down in the standing.

"Truthfully, I want the Lightning out of this years playoffs," said McKee. "You never want the defending champ in any street fight. They usually have the advantage. If we can be responsible for taking them down, you gotta know we would love that opportunity. All men on deck I say. It is time to separate the men from the boys."
