Junior Capitals Top Junior Islanders

The Washington Junior Capitals won two fights and killed eight penalties en route to a 5-2 victory over the New York Junior Islanders on Day 157. The victory keeps Washington in the playoff race at 32-34-12. The Caps are in 10th, four points out of eighth with four games remaining.

Washington jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 10:01 on goals by Matt Maglione and Brett Carson. Maglione's tally came from Patrick O'Sullivan and Robert Muller at 6:42. Maxim Orlov and Jean-Claude Sawyer connected to setup Carson's marker at 10:01. After Branko Radivojevic beat up New York's Kadeykin, the Isles got on the board. Sterling was the scorer from Kadykin and Bolduc at 12:12.

The Capitals took control of the game with a pair of unanswered goals in the middle stanza. O'Sullivan made it 3-1 with his 20th of the season from Zbynek Novak and Sean Bergenheim on the power play at 11:33. Lance Moynch extended the lead to three goals when he scored from Maglione at 15:45.

Washington kept the pressure up in the final period, and Radivojevic made it 5-1 on a goal from Sean Kotary and Novak at 8:17. Guenet completed the scoring for the Isles from Sterling and Jones at 9:14. Fabien Laniel finished the game off by beating up Deech at 14:28.

Muller made 33 saves to earn the win and improve to 7-1-3. Shane Bendera stopped 16 shots in the loss and fell to 28-20-7. Kelly Guard made four saves in relief.

The Junior Capitals are off on Day 158 before hosting Nashville on Day 159.
