Picks from the Jailhouse - Campbell
The Rangers GM used his daily phone call today to call into the league offices and give his two cents on playoff picks. No holds barred from the Ranger GM! He appeared to be cranky. Perhaps he hasn't found/been made a bitch yet.
Oilers vs. Predators
The Oil went on a mindblowing run to end the season and make the playoffs and this GM says that was no fluke. I say the Preds are going to have to be careful with the Oil as they've made a couple of moves that have increased team chemistry and they're ready to do damage. Unfortunately I don't think Conklin, despite his record lately, can with stand the Predators high octane attack.
The Preds are ridiculously deep at centre - so deep in fact that there should be a league inquiry as to thow they got that way - and Joe Thornton should be able to dominate.
Edmonton will give the preds fits but uthe Preds will bury any chances the get. Conklin steals one and the Oilers heart steals another.
Predators in 6.
San Jose vs. Detroit
This is the 'ol Offence vs. Defence type of series. The Sharks have tons of offence and Detroit has the better defence and goaltending.
Sharks offence: With Martin St. Louis, Radek Bonk, Adam Deadmarsh at centre and Jaromir Jagr, Mike York, Glen Murray and Ladislav Nagy on the wings they fish have tons of guys who can shoot pass and score with amazing skill. Too many really. There should be a league inquiry into how they got this many scoreres. Something "FISHY" is going on here...excuse the pun.
The Wings on the other hand have an amazing goalie in Olaf Kolzig who bring plenty of experience to the table. Shultz and Boynton have their work cut out from them and well...their offence doesn't match up well at all.
San Jose will barbecue the Wings in 5
Saint Louis vs. Chicago
Well Chicago had quite a season didn't they? Third in the conference! Very nice. Jonsson, Miller, and Simpson give them a solid nucleus on defence and they have good offence in Petr Sykora...and...and... that's about it. Dan Cloutier is a good goalie. They went on a late season 8-2 run. This, quite frankly, leaves me scratching my head.
The Blues went on a late season run..wait no they didn't. Ok looking at their team they have some great depth at centre but outside of the Kapanen and Erat on wing are weak. Good idea to put Kapanen on wing. This should help them a lot. The defence is weak but young so they'll be improving...next year.
I don't know how the 'Hawks ended up in third with their team. It's suspicious. I demand a league inquiry.
Blues in 5.
Colorado vs. Calgary
Now here's an interesting match up.
Calgary looks as good as any team out there. They're strong at centre, have stone cold killers in Kovalchuk and Naslund, solid defence and goaltending. This can't be right. League Inquiry. I sense collusion. I'm a big fan of the Flames at the moment especially since they have Taylor Pyatt theformer young-Rangers-superstar-in-the-making. Goaltending is not as good as you would think with a guy named Kiprusoff in net. I sense an NHL rerate.
On the otherside of the pond we have the Avalanche where the unstoppable Peter Forsberg makes his home. An absolutely unpleasant to play against defence consisting of Foote, Ternasky, Kasparaitis, and McCabe will make things tough for Calgary. Not a lot of offence outside Forsberg and the 'tending is not stellar.
Calgary melts the Avalance in 6.
