Washington's Lukes 9th in Shorthanded Goals

Young Washington Capitals winger Frantisek Lukes finished ninth in the league in shorthanded goals for Season 5.

Lukes, 23, enjoyed a strong season with 25 goals and 28 assists in 75 games. After bouncing between the second and third lines early on, Lukes settled in as the No. 2 left wing midway through the year. He improved by 19 points over the previous campaign, and his 25 goals were fifth most on the club.

His two shorthanded markers placed him ninth in the league, two behind Dany Heatley and Mike Ricci who led the league with four each. He also scored five goals on the power play. Washington's penalty kill finished 14th in the league at 83.8 percent, and Lukes' strong play was a part of that success. The team was 0.9% better than the previous season while a man down.
