Junior Capitals Close Season With Win

The Washington Junior Capitals finished the season on a high note after defeating the Nashville Junior Predators 5-3 on Day 164. The victory gave Washington a 33-37-12 mark for the year, nine points better than the previous season.

Nashville dominated the opening period, outshooting Washington 10-3, but they couldn't get on the board until Valcak scored a shorthanded goal from Foy and Lucky at 15:39.

The Predators continued to control play in the first half of the second period. Tuma made it 2-0 from Ellison at 4:11, before Upshall's 20th of the season extended the lead to 3-0 on the power play. McCutcheon and Eager assisted on the goal at 8:59. The Caps finally came alive in the second half of the period, netting two goals to pull within one. Matt Maglione got the first from Mikhail Kuleshov and Andrew Joudrey at 10:59, and Patrick O'Sullivan scored the second from Lance Moynch and Henrik Tallinder at 18:36.

Washington completely turned the game in the final period. The Capitals outshot Nashville 13-7 over the 20 minutes and scored three times to secure the win. Fabien Laniel started it off with a marker from Greg Mauldin and Moynch at 1:02 to tie the game. Cory Urquhart then notched the eventual game-winner on the power play from Sean Bergenheim and Jean-Claude Sawyer at 4:52. Sean Kotary added an insurance tally from Maglione and Moynch at 13:02.

Brad Topping made 29 saves to earn the win and improve to 15-25-6. Peter Hamerlik stopped 18 shots in the loss and fell to 14-13-4. Todd Ford made three saves in relief.
