Finally - someone to beat
The Boston Bruins have owned the New Jersey Devils most of the season, and continued to do so as the two teams met with the Bruins on a three game skid. It was a sight for sore skates, one may say.
While the Bruins were outshot by a narrow margin - thirty to twenty-nine - they found the back of the net more than the visitors, winning 4-1 on the play of Andy McDonald's two goal effort.
Both of McDonald's goals came in the first half of the second period, after the Bruins found themselves in a 1-0 hole after David Legwand scored his thirtieth goal of the year in the first. Notching assists on the goals were Martin Havlat, Richard Jackman, Jochan Hecht, and goalie Andrew Raycroft, getting his third assist of the year.
The Bruins piled on, adding a power play goal in the third period by Zdenek Kutlak, after David Legwand was whistled for cross checking out of obvious retribution and frustration. For good measure and to make the team feel better, Lars Jonsson added a goal in garbage time, scoring his thirteenth of the year at 19:47.
Brian Boucher fell to 28-28-6 on the year, while Andrew Raycroft claimed top game star for the second time in as many games against the Devils, improving to 30-22-4. The 15,655 in attendance were able to celebrate the Bruins victory as they departed, knowing the home club was heading to New York to face the Rangers next.
