Legace Wins Washington 3-Stars Award
Goaltender Manny Legace won the Washington Capitals' 3-Stars award with 66 points for the season. Center Patrick Marleau finished second on 45 points, and Zigmund Palffy took third with 41.
Legace had an up-and-down season, but he finished the year with strong play to help the club to a 20-7-4 mark over the final 31 games. The late season surge saw the club finish on 86 points, 13 more than last year. Manny finished at 30-28-8 with a 3.12 GAA and .884 save percentage. His numbers won't win any league awards, but his overall strong play was critical to Washington's success this season.
Marleau was second on the team in points with 68. He had 29 goals and 39 assists and was +11. Patrick improved by 25 points over last season, and he earned Player of the Week honors for Week 20 when he scored eight goals and passed out three assists in five games.
Palffy was a free agent signing for Washington before Season 5, and he stepped right into the offensive leadership role the club expected. Zigmund finished with 29 goals and 51 assists to lead the team with 80 points. His 51 assists were also a team-high. The 80 point total was 19 more than last season.
