Individual Awards handed out to Senators
Individual awards were given out to some outstanding Senators today. First, Goalie Christian Pollar for finishing 3rd in the league in save %. Pollar had a rough year sharing duties with youngster Tobias Stephan. But the duo was incredible. They almost split the games down the middle, with Pollar getting the starts down the stretch and Stephan getting a bunch early in the year.
Secondly, Nick Tarnasky finishes 2nd in the league in PP goals scored with 11. Tarnasky started the year on the 3rd line but had 2 very successful camps that easily moved him into the first line. He finished 3rd on the team in scoring even having played almost 20 games less than the two players ahead of him, Plihal and Golovin. He finished 5 points out of the team lead and played 69 games. Nick is expected to lead the Sens into the playoffs.
Highly underrated winger Chris Kelly also received the breakout award for having a career season finishing with 50 points on the 2nd line, his best season ever. Chris silenced critics who said he was finished and had him rated as a weak winger with little potential. He was a key part of the Sens victories this year as he filled in for campers and took over and earned a key role on the squad.
Finally, Arsi Piispanen ran away with the rookie of the year award on the Sens with a 45 point season and an extremely solid set of camps. Arsi is the top rated scorer on the Sens and notched 45 points with 3rd line duties. He is the brightest spot in the JR Sens future at 19 years old.
