Draft Day Blockbuster

With the minutes ticking away before a name was due, the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins finally came to a conclusion - they would make the deal.

With that fateful decision, the Bruins shipped out the lone junior goaltender who did not suit up for the woebegone Providence team last year, Christopher Heino-Lind. In return, they picked up the Red Wings fifth round pick in the 2009 draft, number 140 overall.

"The way we saw it, we had our eye on three goaltenders," GM Joshua Anderson said. "All were assessed to be stronger prospects than Chris, so why not make that deal? It freed us up to use one of our other picks in the draft for a position player, which we also desperately needed."

He continued, "It was win-win for us. Plus, for the Red Wings, their time allotted for the draft was dwindling, so they had to make a move. This allowed them to get in compliance with the roster minimums for goaltender - again, win-win for them."
