Rolling draft stalled, leaves Leaf gm in a jam.
Leafs second round picks contain surprise selection
36. MapleLeaf (from Wild) - TROY BROUWER (RW)
39. MapleLeaf - KIRIIL LYAMIN (D)
57. MapleLeaf (from Rangers) - Martin Houle (g)
58. MapleLeaf (from Panthers) - Mark Giordano (D)
60. MapleLeaf (from Islanders) - Scott Lehman (D)
The Leafs were hoping to manually draft the last 3 picks in the second round, but due to a gm holding up the rolling draft, they ended up having to send in a list. When the draft was over, the Leafs ended up with who they wanted in all their picks except #60.
The good news, they landed a solid power RWer in Brouwer from Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL). With Lyamin, a dman, and Houle, a goalie, it was more for depth in the position, though they still are solid players with decent futures. The first surprise off-list pick was Flames rearguard Mark Giordano. This previously undrafted player, may or may not pan out, but hes young and already playing in the bigs.
The bad news, with their last pick in the round, they get another dman. Not what they wanted at this spot. Serves them right for not being able to be at the draft, though they shook their first at the gm for stalling the rolling draft..**shakes fist again** Scott Lehman from the Toronto St Michael's Majors (OHL), is a solid young defenseman, that isnt the issue. They really could have used a LWer here.
thats it for the 2nd round, final wrap up in the last draft installment coming soon.
