Walker finally gets wish
After spending a full season sidelined - either by the gruesome injury suffered in the first game of the year, in the doghouse of head coach Robbie Ftorek, or on the trade block - Matt Walker will take up residence in a new town this fall.
Bruins GM Joshua Anderson and Dallas Stars GM Flip Sides came to an agreement in a late night marathon, agreeing to send Walker and his five penalty minutes a game to Dallas in exchange for three future draft picks.
The picks in question - two of which are in this season's draft, the Flyers third round and the Thrashers fourth round selections - will be used to replenish the continually dwindling Boston farm system, which was devastated by the drop off in players after this summer's call ups were announced.
Commenting on the deal, GM Joshua Anderson could only express positive statements. "Frankly, we like Matt Walker. We really do. He is a scrappy kid who will bust his ass for the team, but he was a penalty liability that a team as bad as ours could not afford. We do wish him the best of luck in Dallas, and a long fruitful career. Most of all, we are sad we will no longer have him to shop around and write blogs about. Maybe we will continue to do so - 'Matt Walker tours Dallas. Matt Walker visits the Book Depository. Matt Walker benched in Stars game.' Yeah... I like that idea."
Amazingly, the deal was only mocked minimally in the media, with most expressing amazement that Walker did not die a Bruin due to their inability to move him.
"I always imagined he would keep showing up in Boston, wearing his same jersey, thinking he was part of the team though no one spoke to him," writer Dick Srch said in his Slapshots column.
