Flyers Acquire Young Defenceman
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Carlo Colaiacovo has been traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for a package of draft picks, cash and a young junior defenceman.
The Flyers traded a 1st round draft choice, 2nd round draft choice, junior defenceman Maxim Kondratiev along with 3 million dollars cash to the Thrashers for highly touted young defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo. Philadelphia had no needs for the 1st round draft choice so that made the deal doable for the Flyers. Colaiacovo is one of the rising young defencman in the league and he now is ranked as the Flyers 2nd best defender alongside 24 year old Denis Seidenberg.
Last season Carlo totalled 39 pts in 82 games and was a +14 for the Carolina Hurricanes, scoring 8 goals and 31 assists. The Flyers are more than excited to have this young player join the club and they expect big things from him and the young core in the future.
The 24 year old Toronto native is very pleased to finally become a Flyer and he is looking forward to the challenge of making the Flyers a contender down the road once again. Carlo joins a team that is near the end of a rebuilding process and then the management will need to show some patience with the young players. "This season no one expects us to do anything but lose, it's up to us to prove those people wrong.." Colaiacovo said during press conference early Sunday Afternoon. "There is no pressure on us and that will benefit the team."
